The
Origin
Story
of
Aquarius:
A
Tale
of
the
Water
Bearer
In
ancient
times,
there
was
a
young
man
named
Ganymede
who
lived
in
Troy.
He
was
known
for
his
great
beauty
and
was
often
admired
by
many.
One
day,
Zeus,
king
of
the
gods,
saw
Ganymede
and
was
struck
by
his
loveliness.
He
decided
to
bring
the
young
man
to
Mount
Olympus
to
serve
as
his
cup-bearer.
Ganymede
was
taken
to
the
heavens,
where
he
was
given
the
task
of
pouring
nectar
and
ambrosia
for
the
gods.
Though
he
was
homesick,
Ganymede
was
honored
to
serve
Zeus
and
the
other
gods.
He
performed
his
duties
with
grace
and
skill,
and
soon
became
a
favorite
among
the
deities.
However,
Ganymede
had
always
been
curious
about
the
mortal
world.
He
missed
his
family
and
longed
to
return
to
his
homeland.
One
day,
he
approached
Zeus
and
asked
to
be
allowed
to
return
to
Earth.
Zeus
reluctantly
agreed,
but
he
made
one
request:
that
Ganymede
bring
a
vessel
filled
with
water
from
the
River
Styx,
the
river
that
separated
the
world
of
the
living
from
the
world
of
the
dead.
Ganymede
agreed
to
the
request
and
was
sent
back
to
Earth
with
a
silver
pitcher.
He
traveled
to
the
River
Styx,
where
he
filled
the
pitcher
with
water.
As
he
was
making
his
way
back
to
Mount
Olympus,
he
was
beset
by
troubles.
Demons
tried
to
steal
the
pitcher
from
him,
and
he
was
forced
to
fight
them
off
with
his
strength
and
wit.
Finally,
Ganymede
made
it
back
to
Mount
Olympus
triumphant.
He
presented
the
pitcher
of
water
to
Zeus,
who
was
pleased
with
his
bravery
and
rewarded
him
by
placing
him
among
the
stars.
Ganymede
became
known
as
Aquarius,
the
Water
Bearer,
and
forevermore
he
would
carry
the
pitcher
of
the
River
Styx
on
his
shoulder.
Today,
Aquarius
is
known
